BREAKING: Recount granted in Ballymahon LEA after sitting councillor eliminated

Cllr Gerard Farrell was eliminated with 627 votes, just one behind Sean Mimnagh (FF)
A full recount of the Ballymahon LEA has been granted. The request was made by sitting councillor Gerard Farrell (Ind), who was eliminated on the fourth count.
Farrell was eliminated with 627 votes, just one ahead of Sean Mimnagh (FF) who was on 628.
Farrell left Fine Gael earlier this year, after his sister Lorraine failed to secure the nomination for this election.
Newtowncashel man Martin Skelly was instead chosen for the party. Farrell announced at the end of 2023 that he would not be seeking the nomination for FG himself for this election.
Sean Mimnagh is also from Lanesboro and is a first time candidate. The battle for the last two seats in the Ballymahon LEA will go down to the wire.
There are five candidates within just 51 votes of each other. Another sitting councillor, outgoing Cathaoirleach of the council Colm Murray, is also fighting for his political survival.
