The Walk for Talk is a fundraising walk from Cloone GAA Park to Aughavas GAA Park at 2pm on Saturday, July 27.

The aim of the walk is to raise money for both Aware and Stop and to get people talking about suicide and depression.

Sadly, many communities have been devastated by suicide. It is hoped that this event will, by raising awareness, allow people to talk openly about mental health; this would go a long way towards removing the stigma that exists and encourage those suffering to feel able to seek the help they need.

This Walk for Talk event is all about people coming together to support the charities, to talk about what to do and say regarding mental health and perhaps to learn how to be a comforting ear to someone in distress.

Stop and Aware are two wonderful charities. Sometimes people in distress feel that they can’t talk to their friends or family about certain things for whatever reason. Stop and Aware provide a kind, sympathetic ear via their helplines that make a real difference.

There has been a wonderful response to the event, with posters, hoardings, key rings, refreshments and transport between the two parks all generously sponsored already. For more details, check out the facebook page on www.facebook.com/TheWalkForTalk.

Registration on the day will begin at 1pm at Cloone GAA park. Starting at 2pm, participants will walk, run, jog or crawl the 6km to Aughavas GAA park. There will be refreshments served afterwards in Aughavas.
