The Longford Town Landmarks book recently launched by Longford Arts Office, is now available to purchase locally.

The book features ten well-known landmarks in our county town, with stories and memories from the people who have known and loved them.

Curated by local journalist, Jessica Thompson, and beautifully photographed by Shelley Corcoran, Longford Town Landscapes features interviews with some well known local faces, who share fond memories of their lives in Longford.

From St John's Church, to O'Reilly's Bar, to St Mel's Cathedral, the book takes in some buildings that are still in use.

St Mel's College, the Backstage Theatre, the Temperance Hall, and Scoil Mhuire, as well as some well-known locations that have changed use over the decades, including the Fair Green, Connolly Barracks and the Ribbon Factory are all featured in this book.

The stories in this book tell the tale of Longford in days gone by, with fond memories of the landmarks that make up our beloved town.

Longford Town Landmarks is available to purchase from Newsround, Longford Library and select members of the St Joseph's NS staff for €10.

100% of the proceeds from the sale of this book will go to St Joseph's national school for the redevelopment of the playground.

The school is opening its fifth autism class in September and so the playground is being redeveloped to meet the needs of the school.
