The second Drumlish FIDE Rapid Chess Tournament took place at the Drumlish Community Centre, attracting 72 players from across the country. FIDE is The International Chess Federation.

The event, organised by the Drumlish Chess Club, featured seven rounds of competitive play and highlighted the growing interest in chess locally.

Category winners included Finn Cummins (U18), Korneliusz Bartczak (U14), George O’Brien (O50), and Nicole White, who was crowned the Ladies Champion.

The organisers thanked the participants, sponsors Panelto Foods and CBE, and FIDE arbiter James Forde for their contributions to the event’s success.

“We’re grateful to everyone who made this tournament possible,” said a spokesperson for the Drumlish Chess club. “It was a great day of chess, and we’re already looking forward to the next one.”

For those interested in joining the local chess community, Drumlish Chess Club meets every Monday evening at the Drumlish Community Centre. Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to attend.
