Local fuel supplier John Twaddle, last Friday, September 8, sold and handed over the last bale of briquettes that he will sell to his former neighbour Paddy Courtney at Mac Eoin Park, Longford town.

John, like his father, John Snr, before him, also supplied Longford with fuel, starting out over sixty years ago. They started out with timber then drawing turf, before coal ten twenty years later.

Paddy and John were also close neighbours, with Paddy living in Trillick a Temple and John still in Trillick a Curry. With plants that manufacture peat briquettes in this country closing, the men wanted to mark this moment and mark it for posterity.
