Earlier this year, Longford based company Technimark - which specialises in “precision injection molding, complex assembly, and contract manufacturing” - was granted permission from Longford County Council to demolish the property and replace it with a new 3 storey manufacturing facility and warehouse.

The new facility is expected to result in the creation of between 100-200 new jobs.

While local objections were submitted in relation to certain elements of the planning application, a number of these were addressed in the conditions attached to the planning approval.

The former Eircom site was first purchased by Longford County Council from Eircom in May of last year. Less than two months later, the council agreed to sell the site to Technimark following approval from council representatives.

The sale to Technimark was viewed as a means of supporting their expansion, following the company's urgent need for additional space as they continue to grow internationally.

Council officials at the time described Technimark’s decision to expand their Longford site as a major vote of confidence in the town.
