Gardaí continue to probe fatal N55 road crash between Athlone and Ballymahon
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the circumstances behind a two vehicle road crash between Athlone and Ballymahon on Monday evening that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
A man in his 50s was fatally injured following the collision between a motorcycle and a car on the N55 at Lissoy at around 5.50pm.
His body was removed later that evening to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where a post-mortem was expetectd to take place.
The road itself remained closed on Monday night with diversions being put in place to allow for Garda Forensic Collision investigators to carry out an examination of the scene yesterday (Tuesday) morning.
Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses and those with oossible dash cam footage to contact Athlone garda station on 090 649 2600 the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
