Judge dismisses false 'no claims' document case against North Longford-based defendant

Gardaí received an email from Liberty Insurance who queried a no claims document in 2022
A man accused of having a false 'no claims bonus' had his case dismissed at Longford District Court last week.
Maksims Vapne (46) of 47 Beechwood Park Granard pleaded not guilty to a charge that on November, 2022 at Beechwood, Granard he used a false instrument, a fraudulent no claims bonus certificate, with the intention of inducing another person to accept it as genuine.
Garda O'Keeffe stated that they received an email from Liberty Insurance who had queried a no claims bonus document they had received from Mr Vapne and they had doubts over whether it was a 'true' and genuine document.
"Enquiries were carried out with the insurance company in Lithuania by the name of Seesam.
"Arrangements were made with a representative from Liberty Insurance named Denise Condron and a statement was taken from her.
The defendant had no previous convictions.
Garda O'Keeffe agreed under cross examination by Barrister Ross Nestor BL, defending, that Liberty Insurance incurred no loss.
The legal representative also argued that in relation to the alleged false document Seesam had not provided it.
Judge Vincent Deane dismissed the case as he stated it had not met the threshold after hearing that no representative from Seesam was present.
