Longford's Afroswing stars, K Muni & ND, are pitching up for a 'Stress Free’ summer and bringing an exciting outdoor event to say thanks for their local support.

Fresh from a performance as finalists on the Late Late Show's Eurosong Special, where against all the odds they finished in third place in the race to represent Ireland at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest, the duo presented their first single of the year.

Kofi Appiah and Nevlonne Dampare's new single titled ‘Stress Free’ is scheduled for release on May 26, 2023 and two days later they will host musical and ice cream gathering at The Mall.

Stress Free was written and recorded in the midst of all the Eurosong madness, it begins with a kick and has an upbeat vibe throughou.

It's a clear exhibition of K Muni & ND’s trademark Afroswing sound that has brought them national and international attention.

Kofi says the inspiration for the track comes from their artistic progression: “The theme of Stress Free is that myself and ND feel stress free, we feel musically we have achieved so many things we wanted when we were younger, and we don't have to stress ourselves any more.”

The single is based on life experience: “In the song we talk about how we want to travel around the world, something we want to do a lot of this year. We believe we deserve it. We also mention how we don't want any problems in the music game.

“There's a lot of things going on behind the scenes that cause stress or lead to problems. In this song we're stating how we want to come away from all of that, but recognising these problems have made us stronger.”

Kofi says the single feflects the boys attitude: “This is our first release since Eurosong, it's us feeling like the pressure is off our shoulders, now it's time to reflect and get back into gear.”

The tune is a development of their unique sound: “The song is an Afroswing, as are many of our songs. It's a mixture of afrobeat from Africa and dancehall from Jamaica.

“Afroswing became a huge genre in the UK then across the globe. NSG, a UK group, are an inspiration of our sound, due to their upbeat, energetic and catchy rhythms,” he tells.

Along with the single itself, an official music video will be released on the same day.

The music video was shot by Nathan Sheridan Media in Longford Tennis Club and Spiral Tree outdoor lounge feature in the video. It captures the lads in their element enjoying the sun with friends and showcasing their below average tennis skills.

K Muni is anticipating a good public response: “Our hopes for the track are simple, we just want people to listen to it and vibe, BBQs, parties, picnics, wherever.

Radio plays as well is the aim we want afroswing to be everywhere in Ireland and on top of all this we just want this song to strengthen our catalogue so that when we do perform that every single song we sing is a hit.”

With festival season commencing the pair are hoping to have big announcements, but there is also a special local gig in the offing: “We have something big lined up for after summer, we hope to do a few gigs during the summer and have plans in place.

“We don't have the official dates yet, but as a way of thanking everyone for the support they've shown us this year we are hosting “K MUNI X ND Give Back” at The Mall this Sunday, May 28, at 3pm, where we will have an ice cream truck and be giving away free ice cream have some music and give away some of our merch.”
