The Longford Agricultural Show is one of the biggest events in Longford

The Entertainment Officer for the Longford Agricultural Show is Marissa Hebron and she says attendees are in for a real treat on Sunday as a jam packed entertainment programme that will appeal to all ages has been put together.

“The Longford Agricultural Show is one of the biggest events in Longford over the past 120 years,” enthused Marissa.

She added, “It’s really good. We have horses, Showjumping Ireland. We have 500 craft entries. We have a dog show where people can enter on the day. There is machinery, tug of war competitions – the best the county has to offer. There are products made locally. Ireland has some of the best horses in the world, and there will be some qualifying for the national competitions from Longford Show. The same can be said for the cattle entries. The finest of animals will be travelling to Longford for one day only.”

Marissa is delighted with the music line-up for the 2025 Show.

“This year, we have a bigger stage than what we normally have. We have Patrick Feeney, Seamus Farrell, Jack Keogh and Bríd Shaughnessy and we’ve lots for the whole family. It’s great for children having an exhibit, to reap the rewards for their efforts.”

She is expecting big interest in the jiving competitions, with jivers from throughout the country expected to descend on Ennybegs.

“There is a jiving competition. We’re also hosting a junior one this year. You can see by the high standard of music that we have at the event. There is live music all day with the excellent Patrick Feeney, Seamus Farrell, Jack Keogh and Bríd Shaughnessy, four of the leading stars that country music has to offer. We expect jivers from all over the country to come for the competition. We hope that the quality of the music will be a draw for the competitors who can enter on the day.”

Visitors of all ages can enjoy the extensive Shopping Village, Artisan and Craft Market and Food Court.

Marissa highlighted the efforts of those behind-the-scenes to help create such a big event for everyone to enjoy.

“We have quite a large committee. We’ll have a meeting a couple of weeks after it which leads into the planning for the next show. There are over 100 volunteers, loads of judges and stewards. There are people setting up the event, the stage, the bar, the dance area, the tents. That’s before the exhibitors take their places on the field as well.

“The committee volunteers their own time and expertise. None of the classes, entertainment or anything wouldn’t be possible without the vast sponsors that we have. We are very lucky that we have sponsors that bring a different aspect of the show year in year out.”
