A Fine Gael councillor has called on Longford County Council to write to Transport Minister Darragh O’Brien and urge Transport Infrastructure Ireland to carry out a comprehensive road safety assessment at Creevy Junction, Granard (off the N55) and also at Toneywarden.

Cllr Padraig McNamara submitted a motion at last week's Granard Municipal District meeting, in “response to the ongoing and repeated occurrence of motor accidents at Creevy Junction and the potential of an accident at Toneywarden, highlighting the seriousness of the situation and requesting urgent intervention and funding to implement appropriate safety measures".

The motion was seconded by Turlough McGovern and Cllr McNamara said it needs to be addressed.

"It's the N55 is the main thoroughfare coming from the north to the west and there has been so many accidents happening at Creevy Cross junction."

The council will send Cllr McNamara's letter to TII.
