Judge Bernadette Owens accepted the €500 court poor box donation

A man who “carried the can” for a drug possession charge had the matter struck out after he made a charity donation.

Dylan Ruske of Abbeyderg, Kenagh, Longford was prosecuted for the unlawful possession of cocaine and possession of the drug for sale or supply at Centenary Square, Longford.

Mr Ruske was stopped at 8:30pm on December 30, 2020 by the Divisional Drugs Unit when they undertook a stop and search of the defendant as they believed he was in possession of cocaine. The defendant was found in possession of the drug, and said it was for himself and a friend.

The court was told Mr Ruske has 15 previous convictions; all road traffic except one for a breach of the Covid Movement of People Act.

Having heard the defendant wishes to go to college and has an ultimate aim of joining the army Judge Bernadette Owens accepted the €500 donation the defendant made to the court poor box and the matter was struck out.
