Less than two years into a ten year driving disqualification

A man, who is less than two years into a ten year driving disqualification, has appeared at Longford District Court after he was found driving.

Denis Afromejevs (37), of Aghnagore, Cloondara, Co Longford, appeared last Tuesday before Judge Bernadette Owens charged with driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

The court heard how, on October 29, 2023, at 3.54pm at Kiernan’s Forge, Longford, gardaí observed a child in the back seat of a car, not wearing a seat belt.

When the details of the vehicle were checked on the Garda mobility device, it was discovered that the driver had been disqualified from driving for two years in November 2022, for driving without insurance.

The court further heard that the accused had 10 previous convictions, including the most recent no insurance charge in November 2022 for which he received the ten year driving ban, and a five month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

There were four previous convictions for driving without a licence and four for no insurance, with one conviction for failure to display a vehicle licence disc.

Mr Afromejevs is due to reappear before the court on June 18, 2024.
