A Longford man currently on remand in custody over allegedly discharging a firearm moments before being run over by a van in a feud-related incident in Longford town has been remanded for a further two weeks.

Jamie Dinnegan (32), of Grian Ard, Ardnacassa, Longford, appeared at a sitting of Longford District Court via video link last Tuesday following an incident at Palace Crescent, Longford, on January 24, 2022.

The Longford man initially appeared in court three weeks ago charged with the reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition in suspicious circumstances as well as the possession of both a firearm and ammunition without a certificate.

Mr Dinnegan had been due to apply for bail before the High Court last Thursday.

That appeal, however, was adjourned.

At last Tuesday's court sitting, Sgt Enda Daly, for the State, said directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was still awaited and requested a further two week adjournment.

“It's quite voluminous in nature, the size of the investigation,” he said.

Bríd Mimnagh, standing in for her colleague Fiona Baxter explained to Mr Dinnegan the State's application and about his imminent High Court bail application, an address which led Mr Dinnegan to state: “That's fine Bríd, thank you.”

Mr Dinnegan is due back before Longford District Court on September 19.
