Longford District Court: Public order offence struck out

A young man who got into a row in a shop had the charges against him struck out when he paid the cost of the damage.

Josh Maguire (20), 4 Ardeevan, Ardnacassa, Longford was charged with engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour and committing criminal damage to an ice cream counter at Spar, 11 Main Street, Longford on April 21, 2023.

The court was told the matter was the result of an altercation between two young men. Solicitor Brid Mimnagh said her client had €200 in court.

She said Mr Maguire had “a difficult life” adding: “Himself and his brother look after each other since his mother passed. He his hoping to go to Australia.”

Judge Bernadette Owens directed that the €200 be paid to the injured party and struck the matter out.
