Longford hospitality and retail businesses have been urged to take part in a grant scheme that could provide them with €4000

Local Oireachtas members have urged businesses involved in retail and hospitality in Longford to register for the newly launched 'Power Up Grant, which can provide a €4,000 boost for their firms.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, Peter Burke, his party colleague Fine Gael Senator Micheál Carrigy and Fianna Fáil TD Joe Flaherty have separately welcomed the €170 million scheme.

The initiative, which launches this week, is aimed at supporting local cafés, restaurants, pubs and retailers by providing a tax free cash payment of €4,000 to them before Christmas.

Retail and Hospitality businesses who received the second Increased Cost of Business Scheme payment can now register for the one-off payment.

Minister Burke, Deputy Flaherty and Senator Carrigy strongly encouraged businesses in Longford to register without any delay, so that they can avail of the grant.

Minister Burke said local authorities are "emailing businesses that qualify with details on how to register so all business owners need to check their emails and find their link".

Meanwhile, Deputy Flaherty said registration is easy once business owners have received their email.

“This funding comes off the back of the Increased Cost of Business grant that was paid out to the tune of €244 million to 75,000 SME’s, including 38,000 double payments to SMEs in retail and hospitality,” he added.

Senator Carrigy described the scheme as a significant support for our small, family-run businesses by Fine Gael and Government".
