There has been no arrest or persons charged to date but it is understood gardaí are hopeful further expanding the CCTV search may hold the key to identifying suspects

Gardaí in Longford have viewed extensive CCTV in McEoin Park and they are expanding their search and viewing footage from businesses in the surrounding areas as they seek to catch those responsible for last Monday’s arson attack.

Officers recently appealing to the public to come forward if they witnessed or have any information regarding the fire-bomb attack which occurred shortly before 5am in the Longford Town estate.

Gardaí have carried out door-to-door enquiries and spoken to many local residents about what they saw and heard in the early hours of June 15.

There has been no arrest or persons charged to date but it is understood gardaí are hopeful further expanding the CCTV search may hold the key to identifying suspects and closing in on the arsonists.

The Garda Press Office said on Friday the investigation into a fire-bomb attack on a man's house in McEoin Park in the early hours of last Monday morning, is ongoing and there is no fresh update.

Tommy Redmond, a man in his 60s, who was the sole occupant at the time of the attack managed to get out of the torched house uninjured but he was naturally very shocked and shaken.

Emergency services attended the scene after being alerted shortly after 4.30am with the local fire service successfully extinguishing the blaze at the house, which was extensively damaged. No injuries were reported.

Gardaí have viewed a large amount of CCTV from the area and they are still keen to speak to four people who were captured on camera with their faces covered a short time before the fire-bomb attack to either make them suspects or eliminate them from their enquiries.

Investigators believe the residence was targeted in a case of mistaken identity and the wrong house was targeted.

On Tuesday a public appeal was made for witnesses or anyone who saw anything they feel may be relevant to contact them.

The incident, which has been confirmed by Gardaí as one “of suspected criminal damage by fire” occurred shortly before 5am on Monday, June 15.

Gardaí are keen to speak to anyone who was in the McEoin (McKeon) Park area between 4.30am and 5.15am on the morning in question and who may have witnessed suspicious activity.

They are also asking road users or residents who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings or home CCTV, from the area during the outlined timeframe.

A Garda spokesman said following the arson attack, "Gardaí and emergency services responded to a report of an incident of criminal damage by fire at a domestic residence in Longford town in the early hours of this morning, Monday, June 15.

"The local fire service extinguished the fire.

"There were no injuries reported."

Mr Redmond, who has no involvement in criminality, was being supported by his family on Monday and during this week.
