Gardai are renewing their appeal to all drivers to comply with speed limits

Gardaí in the Longford Roads Policing Unit over the bank holiday weekend stopped a car travelling at almost 100 kilometres per hour above the speed limit.

The detection came as Gardaí implemented a nationwide Road Safety Enforcement Operation.

The driver of the car in Longford was stopped by Gardaí travelling at 136 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.

Proof of insurance was also not provided, and the vehicle was seized and the driver arrested.

The enforcement operation focused on the dangers of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, not wearing a seatbelt, speeding, and using a mobile phone while driving.

Gardai are renewing their appeal to all drivers to comply with speed limits and to drive at appropriate speeds in order to reduce the number of speed-related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on Irish roads.
