The annual Clonfin Commemoration ceremony will be celebrated on Sunday, February 1 starting with Mass for all deceased members at 11.30am in St Mary's Church in Granard.

At 3pm people will assemble at the monument in Clonfin for the annual Commemoration ceremony where this year's speaker will be local historian and author Mr Benny Reid.

Benny is the author of ‘Out on Our Own’ which is a history of the people of Longford, Leitrim and Cavan from the earliest times through to the 20th Century.

The committee looks forward to welcoming Benny to share his thoughts on the famous Battle of Clonfin.

Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Ballymore Clubhouse in Ballybrien and this year local film producers Patrick McGivney and Robert Higgins of Harp Media Productions will show their film on Clonfin on the big screen.

Clonfin was filmed in the area where the actual ambush took place with a number of locals from Granard, Ballymore, Clonfin and Ballinalee taking part and some are descendants of the men involved. The shooting of the recreations gives an interesting insight into the hardships endured by the members of the North Longford Flying Column during time and this will be an ideal opportunity to see this great production so all are welcome.
