Longford #LE24: Murtagh surges ahead as Fine Gael continue to dominate in Granard

Three Fine Gael councillors are in a prime position to be elected in the Granard Municipal District according to tallies with Fianna Fáil performing poorly so far
Garry Murtagh looks on target to well-exceed the quota according to latest tally figures after the Augnacliffe area boxes were tallied.
His party colleague Paraic Brady had been leading the way but tally returns from three booths in Augnacliffe show that Murtagh will reach the quota, after 13 of 19 ballot boxes in the Granard Local Electoral Area have been tallied.
Murtagh has seen a massive surge in tally votes for him in three booths in Aughnacliffe to lead with 6 remaining booths to be tallied.
It has been a strong showing for Fine Gael with a dogfight for the final three seats. With previous poll-topper Turlough McGovern expected to poll well again in the as yet untallied boxes in Granard, there will be a battle for the final two seats.
