A Longford man has been prosecuted in the Circuit Court following a Garda Raid in his home which found multiple illegal items.

A Longford man charged with possession of money, drugs and an offensive weapon following a Garda search operation in south Longford will have the case against him heard in Longford Circuit Criminal Court.

Bart Scally (44) of Cleraun, Newtowncashel, Longford, faces a charge that on July 24, 2023 at his home address he was in possession of cannabis for sale or supply, that he also had possession of a canister of pepper spray and cash totalling €16,250 knowing it was the proceeds of crime.

The prosecution against Mr Scally had been delayed as the State was awaiting a certificate of annalist from Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).

The matter first appeared in court on June 25 last year following the Garda raid the day previously.

The Longford man was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis for sale and supply.

Sergeant Aisling Flynn gave evidence of serving the Book of Evidence against the defendant on the morning of last Tuesday's court sitting.

Sergeant Enda Daly said the prosecution was seeking a return for trial on January 14, 2025 in the Circuit Court and the State had no objection to bail on the same conditions as previous set out.

Judge Bernadette Owens issued the defendant with a bail warning, telling him that if he wished to rely on an alibi he must inform the prosecution within 14 day.

Legal aid was granted in the name of his solicitor, Brid Mimnagh, and two councils.
