Longford man who was drunk and 'fighting' directed to make contribution to charity

Pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to being drunk and disorderly
A judge has directed a Longford town man who was caught fighting after a communion to make a contribution to a local charity.
Hugh Reilly of 27 Lanna Aoibhinn, St Michael's Road pleaded guilty at Longford District Court to being drunk and disorderly and behaving in a threatening, abusive or insulting manner at 11pm on May 11, 2024.
Sergeant Mark Mahon said Gardaí were alerted that there was a disturbance outside an accommodation premises on Main Street.
"There was a crowd gathered in the car park outside and two men were fighting each other," he said. "Both males had attended a communion celebration and both men were highly intoxicated and were arrested under the public order act and arrested."
Mr Reilly had one previous conviction.
Judge Bernadette Owens asked what time the communion had been held and heard it was 12-noon.
Solicitor Bríd Mimnagh stated there were no children present by 11pm.
She stated her client had not been in trouble for 12 years and he was prepared to make a contribution.
Judge Owens decided to direct Mr Reilly to make a €300 contribution to the Cian's Kennels charity by January 1, 2025 and she indicated if this was done she may be willing to take a certain course of action.
