The death occurred peacefully, in the care of the Manor Nursing Home, Edgeworthstown, on Friday, January 20, 2023 of Michael Brennan, Teffia Park, Longford Town, Longford and formerly Derryadd, Kenagh, Co Longford.

A very well known gentleman Michael retired to the Manor Nursing Home for the past three years.

He was known throughout the county as an outspoken character with a keen interest in local politics for most of his active life.

He served his political career with well known TD of the time Joe Sheridan. He went on to secure election himself to Longford County Council representing the Ballymahon electoral area.

He had the distinction of being elected chairperson of Longford County Council on his first day in office.

He served on the county council for two terms, all during which Michael was a very colourful character well known for his witty expressions with severe references to the opposition.

Even after his terms on the county council, he continued to maintain an interest in local affairs, never missing an opportunity to express his opinion on local social and domestic issues.

No doubt, Mike will be remembered for his witty remarks.

He was interred in Cashel cemetery after his funeral mass in St Mel's Cathedral on Tuesday, January 24.

We offer our sympathies to his many friends, cousins and neighbours.
