A Longford resource centre is to receive a boost of €1,400 after the local district court agreed to the disposal of cash, which was in garda custody.

A garda application before the recent sitting of Longford District Court heard that the defendant who was in possession of the money, Richard Barrow, has left the jurisdiction.

Garda Sergeant Mark Mahon said gardaí don’t know where he is residing and ‘can’t locate him. We have made every effort’.

He said the man is being sought in relation to ‘more serious charges’.

Gardaí sought to have the money disposed of to two local charities.

Sgt Mahon said the Rath Mhuire charity operates a resource centre in Granard, looking after the elderly, and providing services such as meals on wheels.

“They will be grateful for any money at this time of year,” Sgt Mahon said.

Judge Bernadette Owens directed the money to be paid to the charity.
