Deputy Carrigy said since the launch of the scheme in November 2007, significantly increased levels of activity continue to be experienced by local authorities with over 160,000 grants being paid to older people and disabled people around the country.
This has facilitated those applicants to remain in their own homes and communities, and in the case of many older people preventing premature entry to residential care.
“These grants make a real and significant impact on the lives of older and disabled people. During 2024, €1,038,570 was paid out in grants to people in Longford," Deputy Carrigy said. "These comprise of grants for people with disabilities and older people to adapt their homes and for mobility aids."
Deputy Carrigy said a total of 15,000 grants being paid out nationwide in 2024 not only represents enhanced living conditions for our more vulnerable citizens, but also a boost to our economy through providing employment to local tradespeople.
“I am firmly committed to supporting individuals to remain at home and within their own communities and these revised grants will enable more people to do that," he concluded.
