Longford town hosts peace vigil in support of Palestine

A peace vigil organised by the Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council of Ireland hopes to highlight the humanitarian crisis escalating as a result of the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
The solidarity vigil took place on Longford's Market Square on Sunday evening.
Parvez A. Butt of the Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council of Ireland explained the reason for the vigil: “The purpose of this event was to create optimum awareness of the 'Killing Fields of Gaza – Palestine',” he told the Leader.
The Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council Ireland is an apolitical organisation. Parvez said the group were compelled to organise the gathering: “Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council Ireland organised the vigil in solidarity with Palestine and people of Gaza who are facing an apartheid regime's genocide.
“The event was supported by the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign (ISPC).”
Parvez continued: “The event was attended by 200 plus people from all communities, political parties and community organisations ( IPCN, ISPC, PBP).
“We at Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council Ireland thank all those who felt committed to the cause of Palestinian freedom, who gave up their time on a Sunday to participate in this vigil.”
The Kashmir Peace and Solidarity Council Ireland spokesperson thanked all who supported the vigil: “We also thank the Local Deputy Joe Flaherty TD, and a number of councillors representing various political groups who attended the event.
“Special thanks to Fiana Fail and Sinn Fèin representatives for joining us in support for Palestine
“ Once again, Longford has shown that we are a strong county that stands for the rights of the people who need a voice and help the most, and we will always stand for justice,” Parvez concluded.
