A woman caught driving while disqualified will return before Longford District Court in September, at which point a probation report will be presented to the judge.

Leona Feeney (39) of 47 Trumra Road, Granard, Longford, faced a charge that on April 24, 2024 she drove a vehicle without a drivers licence or insurance.

Sergeant Mark Mahon said that the defendant was the driver of a car stopped by officers at Rathcronan, Granard. An inspection of the vehicle showed there was no insurance displayed, and when the drivers details were run through the Pulse system it indicated Ms Feeney was a disqualified driver.

Sgt Mahon said the defendant had eleven previous convictions, four of which were for no insurance. Her last no insurance convection was from 2021, when she was disqualified for four years.

Solicitor Frank Gearty said his client acknowledged this was a “serious matter”. Mr Gearty said there was a significant background to the matter.

The solicitor asked the judge to consider the compilation of a probation report before sentence “to give context to the offence”. Mr Gearty said there were a series of events around Ms Feeney's case that the court should be made aware of.

Adjourning the matter for September Judge Deane directed that a probation report be compiled.
