A man had to be arrested for his own safety after he said he had taken sugar and thought he was Spiderman.

Appearing before the recent sitting of Longford District Court was Kamil Bulczak (34), Apartment 4, Take Two Apartments, Earl Street, Longford who was charged with intoxication in a public place at Market Square, Longford on November 13 last.

Sergeant Enda Daly outlined to the court that gardaí had received a call from a male looking for help.

When they arrived, they found the defendant outside Boyle Sports shop. He told them he had taken sugar and was Spiderman.

“He said he had the strength of ten horses and needed to use it,” Sgt Daly outlined.

The defendant was arrested and later assessed at Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar.

Defence solicitor John Quinn said the defendant had been arrested “for his own benefit” and was co-operative while in custody.

“He was a little bit out of sorts,” Mr Quinn said.

A fine of €100 was imposed on the defendant.
