Man fined for stealing alcohol from Longford supermarket

The defendant, who took the goods on October 1, 2024, had 22 previous convictions,
A fine of €150 was imposed on a Dublin man who stole alcohol from a Longford supermarket.
Mark Haren (53) of 19 Clonsaugh Av, Colonsaugh Dublin 17, pleaded guilty to the theft of a bottle of vodka and a bottle of coke valued at €33 from Davis SuperValu, Hazelwood Shopping Centre, Longford on October 1, 2024.
Solicitor Brid Mimnagh told the judge her client had €48 in court to be paid to the injured party.
Sergeant Enda Daly said the defendant had 22 previous convictions, but the last one was from 2016.
“Mark is doing really well,” Ms Mimnagh said, “His previous convictions were a result of a combination of addiction and personal problems. He has been addressing his alcohol issues, this was a slip. He has spent some time on a relative farm and has a renewed perspective on life. He is not a man you will see again.”
Having noted the early plea, and that Mr Haren had paid compensation Judge Owens registered a conviction and imposed a fine of €150 with six months to pay.
