Man in Longford who stuck fingers up at gardaí should have downed Easter eggs instead of alcohol

Defendant ordered to pay €350 to the court poor box
A man who engaged in abusive behaviour towards Gardaí has been ordered to pay €350 to the court poor box, following an appearance at Longford District Court last Tuesday.
Judge Bernadette Owens, last Tuesday, heard evidence of how Sebastian Kasprzyk (37), of 17 Dundara, Dublin Road, Longford, raised his middle fingers of both hands at passing Gardaí shortly after midnight on April 1, 2024.
Soon afterwards, he was arrested for public order and conveyed to Longford Garda Station, where he was charged with public intoxication and threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour.
Mr Kasprzyk has 21 previous convictions, the majority of which were for road traffic offences.
Solicitor for the defence, Mr Frank Gearty, said his client is “prone to depression”, but “that does not excuse any of his behaviour”.
“He has a very poor recollection of what happened. You'd like to think that he doesn't often engage in that type of behaviour and that was the Mr Hyde to his Dr Jekyll,” said Mr Gearty.
He added that Mr Kasprzyk is currently on jobseekers and said “it should have been Easter eggs rather than what was downed that night”.
Judge Owens gave Mr Kasprzyk the opportunity to pay €350 to the court poor box, reminding him on continuing bail to July 16, 2024, to allow him time to gather the money.
