Longford's former greyhound track has already been earmarked to house a state of the art skatepark and now an ultra modern soccer pitch could be set to follow suit.

Independent Cllr Gerry Warnock, who led the fight against government moves to install modular housing for Ukrainian refugees on the seven acre site, is eyeing up the prospect of supplementing its recreational appeal even further.

“It's great to see that the spectre of housing has been removed and we should see the recreational development of the site this year as the proposed skatepark is now at detailed design as is the connection to the Canal Walk from Park Road,” he said.

Cllr Warnock added talks with Longford County Council's in-house architect team has already taken place after calls to add a soccer pitch to the site were aired at a public meeting in December.
