Multi million euro renovation works at Longford school to get underway

Multi million euro renovation works of a Longford Secondary School is set to get underway over the coming weeks.
Over €6m was allocated to St Mel's College last year for a major refurbishment project concentrating chiefly on the college's historic 1865 original building.
“The renovation of our historic main building in St. Mel's College will begin in March,” said a spokesperson this week.
The regeneration project, costing around €6m, will include two Special Needs Classes, two general classrooms, a home economics room, a computer room, a science lab, a music room and a Design/Communications Graphic (DCG) room.
St Mel's principal Malachy Flanagan said: "Work is only in the infancy stages, emergency works had to take place to stabilise the ceilings and the walls", and how he hopes to have everything up and running in the next few years.
“All students and teachers are delighted to see our beloved building being revived and we look forward to the exciting years ahead.”
