There was deep regret and sadness in the area at the news of the death of Mary Mulligan, Aughnacliffe and formerly Denning from Derrycassan, which took place last Monday, March 18, peacefully at her home surrounded by her family after a short illness bravely borne.

Her passing came just over a month after the passing of her brother Johnny.

Mary was one of ten children of the late James and Elizabeth Denning and was a member of a well-respected family in the district and was popular and well-liked in the area.

Mary moved to Aughnacliffe when she married PJ Mulligan from Rathmore and brought up her family there. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren and maintained a great interest in the affairs of both her adopted and native parishes.

She was in excellent health until her recent illness and her passing leaves a void not only for her family but in the wider area.

She was predeceased by her parents, by her sisters Kathleen, Nell, and Bridget and brothers Paddy, JP, Tommy, and Johnny.

She is survived by her beloved husband PJ, her daughters Breda, Marie, Laura and Barbara and their partners, her sons Pádraig and Michael and their partners, sister Julia (Enaghan), brother Ollie (Derrycassan), her grandchildren Shalyn, Oisín, Robin, Matthew, Sean, Saoirse, Caoimhe, Jessie, Sophie, and Éabha, her sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom we extend our sincere condolences.

Her Funeral Mass took place in St Colmcille’s Church, Aughnacliffe, on Wednesday, March 20 with interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam uasal.
