North Longford mourns death of obliging neighbour and devoted Mullinalaghta GAA supporter

Late Pat (Paddy) Donohoe, Aughamore, Lisryan, Longford / Dring, Longford
There was an air of sadness in the parish of Mullinalaghta on Monday, January 9, 2023 when word spread of the death of the late Pat (Paddy) Donohoe, Lisryan and formerly of Penge, London and Derrycassan, after a short illness.
Pat was in his eighty-fourth year and was one of five children of the late Bernard and Margaret Donohoe.
After his schooling in Cloonagh, Pat left for England at the age of seventeen, where he met the love of his life, Patricia, where they were married in 1966 and lived for many years until Pat brought Patricia back to Ireland with him after his retirement in 2005, where they settled in Lisryan and were an active part of the local community.
Pat was a helpful and obliging neighbour to all and was able to practice his love of gardening and his interest in the fortunes of Mullinalaghta St Columba’s, of whom he was a faithful and devoted supporter, present at all club matches, and he was honoured in recent years by being appointed one of the vice-presidents of the club.
Pat was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Jimmy and Brian (Sonny), and his sister Mary.
He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, his sister Brigid, his sister-in-law Lily, his nieces Caroline, Maggie, Lizzy and Samantha, nephew Bernard, cousins, neighbours and a large circle of friends, to whom we express our sympathy.
The Funeral Mass for Pat took place in St. Columba’s Church at 1pm on Wednesday, January 11 and was celebrated by Fr Michael Bannon, assisted by Fr Pierre Pepper, Fr Simon Cadam, and Fr Peter Beglan, a neighbour and childhood friend of Pat’s from Derrycassan, after which cremation took place in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.
