Midland Agri Consultants Ltd in Granard launched a major new Farm Machinery Safety Programme for Young People, which will provide 480 free training places for young people aged 14–18 years from farming backgrounds across Longford and the wider Midlands region.
The programme is funded by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine and it was launched on Friday, June 12 at The Bank, Market Street, Granard.
The programme aims to improve awareness of farm safety among young people and help develop safe habits and promote safe farming culture around machinery and everyday farm activities.
Paul Belton of Midland Agri Consultants Ltd said farm safety is something that affects every rural community. 'Unfortunately, there are very few farming families who do not know someone who has been involved in a farm accident. We continue to see serious injuries and fatalities on Irish farms every year, and we believe education is one of the most effective ways of preventing accidents before they happen.'
Longford Live photographer Shelley Corcoran captured this gallery of photos at the launch and we hope you enjoy them.
