Three Longford parishioners have been conferred with the Pontifical Honour of Benemerenti in recognition of their outstanding service to the local parish community. During last Sunday morning's mass in St Colmcille’s Church, the Bishop of Ardagh & Clonmacnois, Paul Connell, presented the medals to locals Patricia Boyle, Annie Brady and Jackie Flanagan. The three recipients have each given long and dedicated service to the parish over a number of years, contributing significantly to parish life and activities. The Benemerenti Medal, a papal honour first established by Pope Gregory XVI in 1832, is awarded to individuals in both the clergy and laity, who have shown exceptional and committed service to the church and community.
