Defendant fell foul of a €400 drugs debt and was addicted to smoking cannabis

A Longford man charged with possession of cannabis following a garda search operation in south Longford last year had a further adjournment when the court was told the prosecution are still awaiting a certificate of analysis from Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).

Bart Scally (43) of Cleraun, Newtowncashel, Longford, first appeared in court on June 25 last following a garda raid the previous day.

The Longford man was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis for sale and supply.

During the bail hearing before Judge Bernadette Owens, Mr Scally said he fell foul of a €400 drugs debt and was addicted to smoking cannabis.

Sergeant Enda Daly said the prosecution had yet to receive the certificate from FSI.

Judge Bernadette Owens said she was marking the file as “time passing” and remanded the defendant on bail until May 21, 2024.
