Second phase of major regeneration of north Longford housing estate due to start

Work on Granard's Colmcille Terrace will commence in the coming weeks
Longford County Council members were told that work on the second phase of Granard's Colmcille Terrace will commence in the coming weeks.
Since restoration proposals for the estate were first mooted in 2018 progress on the project has staggered along before significant funding was committed last year.
Longford County Council approved the transfer of 19 local authority homes in Granard to social housing association Tutha in 2022.
Last April funding of €4.9m was committed for the major regeneration of the north Longford housing estate.
In May of 2018 the Department of Housing set aside €1.6m to revamp 12 vacant units on the estate.

At the April meeting of Longford County Council Cllr Turlough McGovern asked the executive how close the project was to completion.
Director of Services with responsibility for housing, planning, and regeneration, John Brannigan, said a process of negotiations had been completed in respect of a number of houses.
Mr Brannigan said phase two is expected to commence in four to six weeks and it is envisioned it will be completed in the near future.
