Two young men charged in connection with the illegal discharge of a weapon at The Glenview Lounge, Glenmore, Aughnacliffe last February will have their case heard in the Circuit Court.

Jason Murray (21) of Barradrum, Street, Rathowen, Westmeath and Jack Sullivan (18) of Kilmore, Streete, Westmeath will go before the court charged with recklessly discharging a firearm and the unlawful damage of a VW Polo.

Mr Murray was represented by solicitor Brid Mimnagh, while Mr Sullivan's legal representative was Frank Gearty.

The charges stem from an incident where gardaí were called to the Glenview Lounge in Aughnacliffe at around 11pm on February 10, 2023 after reports of a shooting.

Sergeant Mark Mahon told Judge Bernadette Owens at the District Court sitting that the Director of Public Prosecution was seeking to have the matter sent forward to the next Longford Circuit Court sitting on October 3 for trial on indictment.

Garda Eamon Fitzpatrick told the court he served the book of evidence on the defendants on the morning of the court sitting.

After issuing the defendants with alibi warnings Judge Owens sent the matter forward on the same bail conditions as previously set out, the defendants were granted legal aid for the Circuit court hearing.
