Success for Longford girls in DCU
Four members of the North Longford Senior Branch, Irish Girl Guides competed in the FIRST LEGO League Challenge UK and Ireland Regional final recently in DCU.
Niamh Lillis, Alex Higgins, Lorraine McNabola and Niamh Grier won first place overall and they now proceed to the National UK and Ireland finals on Saturday, March 25 in Dublin.
The topic for the project was Superpowered. The girls had to design, build and code a robot to move around a table of energy themed challenges.
They had to identify a superpowered problem either nationally or internationally, find a solution to their problem, then construct a prototype of that solution.
The girls chose the energy crisis as their problem and nuclear fusion as their proposed solution.
They then had to complete a project under the categories Robot Design, Innovation and Core Values and present the project to a panel of judges.
