The Annual LRR Dinner honours five members for their contribution to refereeing with the committee’s annual awards.
President Gordon Condell announced Longford RFC's Trevor McHugh as this year's Harry Ardill Referee of the Year.
There are five main awards; lifetime achievement - the Ham Lambert Award; referee of the year – the Harold Ardill Award; referee performance of the year – the Alain Rolland Award, introduced in 2015; club of the year - the Terry Doyle Memorial Award; and the Denis Collins Perpetual Award for Progressive Referee.
Speaking about his refereeing journey Trevor explained what led him to take up the whistle: “My own introduction came in 2010. Having played and coached I decided to give refereeing a chance.
“Over ten years on and my refereeing career has now exceeded my playing career and every game still brings the same anticipation and adrenaline burst it did in my playing days.”
