The sentence was imposed on a man charged with driving without insurance or driving licence at last week's district court.

A TOTAL of 200 hours community service was imposed on a man charged with driving without insurance or driving licence at last week's district court.

Judge Andrew Cody told defendant Aivaras Stasytis (36) of Corner House, Mountbolus, he wouldn't get community service if it had been him that was dealing with the case.

Mr Stasytis had been driving under the influence of alcohol at Church Road in Tullamore on April 14, 2023. He had an alcohol level of nine microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath. In addition he was driving without insurance or driving licence.

Mr Stasytis had appeared in court on February 19. He had 25 previous convictions,13 under the Road Traffic Act and had been disqualified for six years prior to this latest offence.

At last week's court, he received 60 hours community service in lieu of six months in prison for intoxication while driving. For driving with no licence he received another 60 hours in lieu of six months in prison. For the offence of driving without insurance 80 hours community service was handed down in lieu of six months. He was disqualified for six years on each offence.

Judge Cody told him he was lucky to get community service.
