A MOTORIST before last week's Tullamore Court had been involved in a traffic accident on the Birr / Banagher road, the court was told.

Stefan Feehan, Killaltanagh, Banagher, was charged with driving with no insurance, a bald tyre, no NCT cert and driving without reasonable consideration.

Sergeant Richard Thornton told the court that Mr Feehan was driving along the R439 on July 4   last when he rear-ended a car which was stopped on the road with the intention of turning right. The damage caused to the injured party's car came to €6,000.

Judge Cody asked the defending solicitor Donal Farrelly if his client could pay the compensation to the injured party.

Mr Farrelly said that would be extremely difficult. He added that his client is 27 years of age, is a mechanic, and had no previous convictions.

“He was going through a difficult time during this period,” the solicitor remarked. “He had just broken up with his partner.”

The Judge convicted Mr Feehan for no insurance, no NCT, a tyre in an unacceptable condition and driving without reasonable consideration. He fined €1,350 and disqualified from driving for two years.
