ALERT: Offaly drivers warned over 'hidden potholes' after cars damaged

Drivers in Offaly are being warned over hidden potholes causing damage to cars after recent rain.
Offaly Independent Councillor Fergus McDonnell took to social media on Tuesday, October 29, to warn the general public to beware of 'hidden potholes' which pose a serious threat to motorists.
The potholes, which can be found along the Edenderry to Clonbullogue road in Offaly, are described as 'hidden' by the councillor, due to the rain water hiding how deep the pothole goes.
Upon first glance, they do not look like potholes but rather large puddles, posing serious danger to drivers as there is much more to the surface than meets the eye.
Locals took to social media to relay their experience of this road, with one user commenting, "Fergus, this major pothole actually broke shock in our car two weeks ago."
"This needs to be done urgently as four motorists had damage done to their vehicles recently," another added.
Cllr McDonnell notified the Offaly County Council that repairs must take place as soon as possible in order to avoid serious harm.
Speaking on the situation, Fergus said: "Unfortunately in the county, particularly in the north, the condition of the roads is a big issue.
"These potholes have caused major damage to a number of cars in this area. I am looking forward to the Offaly County Council tending to this matter urgently.
"It is a case of weather and road conditions are not standing up to the heavy bulks of traffic that they are experiencing in recent times."
