The road from Kinnitty to Roscomroe and Roscrea is littered with potholes

A warning has been issued to motorists in one Offaly town after three drivers burst tyres on their cars in a half hour period.

The incidents happened on the Kinnitty to Roscomroe road in recent days where huge potholes were hidden by surface water after a deluge of rain.

Offaly County Council have been contacted about the state of the road which runs through Roscomroe and on to Roscrea, a main route for people in all three areas.

Local Fine Gael councillor John Clendennen posted a warning to locals. He said: "Any motorists traveling the Kinnitty to Roscomroe Road, please exercise extreme caution between Longford Cross and Aghagurty Bridge.

"There has been multiple incidents over the weekend resulting in damage to cars, due to potholes that are not visible as there is road surface water.

"I’ve reported the issue to Offaly County Council requesting repair works and warning signage, and I’ve agreement from the Area Engineer that the stretch of road will be resurfaced under this years Roads Programme once drainage works are complete."
