Big improvements on the way for playground in Offaly

Better safety and inclusivity to be created at Banagher facility
Big improvements are on the way for Banagher Playground, a very popular facility in the town, which is located in Shannon Bank Park, near the outdoor swimming pool.
Cllr Audrey Hennessy Kennedy announced last week that she had been in contact with the Area Engineer and he had told her that the welcome changes are on the way.
This means that surface repairs and equipment maintenance will be carried out by the Council; and a number of key areas, including the railings and the gate will be painted. The main gate will also be repaired.
“A new safety barrier will be installed outside the gate to help protect children who might attempt to run out when the gate is open,” added the Councillor. “This is very welcome news.”
A wheelchair-accessible carousel will also replace the current roundabout, an inclusive addition which will enable children who use wheelchairs to enjoy playtime alongside their peers.
As well as this, a number of sensory equipment items will be installed around the playground. New equipment will replace old and broken equipment.
“All of these enhancements,” commented Cllr Hennessy Kennedy, “will improve both the safety and inclusivity of the playground for all users.” She said the upcoming improvements will be carried out over the next few weeks and thanked the Engineer “for working with me on this project.”
