Green Party man organises petition to see late evening train service introduced from Dublin to Tullamore and Clara

A call for late evening train services from Heuston to Tullamore, Clara and Athlone has been made by the Green Party local election candidate for the Tullamore Municipal District, Liam Walsh.

He said that in the course of his door to door canvassing in Tullamore one of the most prominent issues arising is the absence of a late evening train service from Heuston station to the town.

The Green Party man stated that the issue has been raised with him consistently on the canvass with a number of people stating that they continue to use their car to travel daily to and from Dublin because the departure time of the last train leaving Heuston station is 7.35pm.

He said that this gap in connectivity with the capital needs to be addressed as a matter of priority as aside from promoting more sustainable travel practices the provision of a later train service would greatly enhance the quality of life from so many households who have family members commuting regularly to Dublin for work, college or other reasons.

He stated, that he is calling for the late evening service from Heuston to be improved significantly and he also stated that there is evidence that the early morning service from Tullamore to Heuston is now at or near full capacity which he says is something which also needs to be addressed as a matter of priority.

Mr Walsh has begun a petition, encouraging as many people as possible to sign, so we can send a clear message to the National Transport Authority.
