A FAMILY in the USA is seeking relations in Offaly.

Erika Clark's great great grandfather was James Grennan, born on April 4, 1828 in what was then known as King's County.

Erika, who lives in the eastern state of Connecticut, is trying to trace any distant cousins she might have in advance of a trip to Ireland in August next year.

“I am on a fun quest to perhaps meet up with my Irish ancestry,” said Erika.

The mother of two knows that her great great grandfather James Grennan married Honoria Meaher Hussey, who was born in Tipperary in either 1832 or 1836.

Erika does not have much more information about her Irish side, other than that her ancestors lived in New York and then Kansas.

The Irish roots are through her maternal grandfather, William A Wagner, who was a son of Rose Grennan, a woman born in Cogo County, New York on October 23, 1857.

Rose Grennan married William Wagner on April 23, 1876. She died on December 9, 1935 in Burlington, Kansas and is buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Burlington.

Rose's father James Grennan married Hannah McDonnell on October 23, 1853 near Syracuse, New York. He died on August 11, 1911 in Burlington, Kansas and is also buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Rose's mother Hannah McDonnell was born about 1832 and died on July 15, 1861. She is buried in the Catholic cemetery near Syracuse, New York.
