Half of the two wards at Tullamore Hospital are now being used by other patients claims Independent councillor and local elections candidate, Sean O'Brien

Concerns about both the children's ward and the day ward in the Midland Regional in Tullamore have been expressed by Independent councillor, Sean O' Brien.

He claimed that half of these wards are now being used for other patients

Cllr O'Brien said that the children's ward was to be specifically used for children who required surgery or other medical procedures and that it played a vital role in ensuring that children received treatment as soon as possible.

Cllr O'Brien stated that now half of this 17 bed Ward is being used for regular patients and this means that children who need medical attention cannot be admitted for such operations as Tonsilitis.

"This means that children are being forced further down the waiting lists and it is not acceptable," outlined Cllr O' Brien.

He added: "The day ward, which is for people  requiring medical treatment without overnight stay, is also being used for regular patients and again this means that those requiring day procedures will be pushed down the list also. I will be raising these issues with HSE Management and asking if this is happening because of cutbacks to our Hospital's budget or for whatever other reason."
