Court hears of threatening and drunk behaviour on street in Offaly

THE recent sitting of Tullamore District Court heard of threatening and intoxicated behaviour on a Birr street.
Owen Clancy, Gurteen, Rathcabbin, Roscrea, was summonsed for committing the public order offences on High Street, Birr on September 21, 2020. He pleaded guilty.
Sgt James O'Sullivan told the court that at 8pm the defendant was "acting in an intoxicated manner" on High Street. "He and the injured party had a brief but heated exchange of words. The injured party says he felt threatened by his behaviour. The defendant has one previous conviction.”
The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly said his client was pleading guilty.
“He's a 42 year old single man. He normally wouldn't behave in this way. He tells me that the injured party pushed him up against a wall."
Judge Andrew Cody convicted and fined €100 for Section 6 public order (threatening behaviour) and took Section 4 public order (intoxication in public) into consideration.
